Questions of the Soul: Prologue

One of the underlining purpose of the Book of Mormon is to testify that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the World. Another purpose of this holy book of scripture is to answer questions of the soul. I am beginning a multiple part blog series for the next few weeks or so, depending on the response, about some of those "questions of the soul."

What are some of those questions? Well they could be many things. There are some of the more general ideas, which I will be most likely to write about, which include but aren't limited to; Is there a God? What does God expect of me? Is there life after death? What is the purpose of life? Does God answer prayers? How can I find peace and joy? How can I avoid sin?

There are also some more personal questions that we have in life that may not fall into the "what do most people think" category. So in light of that, part of this series of blogs will be open for question and discussion. If you have any questions that have gone unanswered in the years. If you know someone who is struggling to find answers to life's problems, questions, or prayer. Please feel free to leave a comment on this blog and future blogs within the series.

I can't promise that I can answer everyone's questions right away, or perfectly clear. I can't promise that I can even answer everyone's questions at all. However, I can promise to do my very best to answer all the questions that come my way. If none do, then I will answer the ones that I know of, and the ones that I have been asked in my missionary service.

I hope that everyone can gain something from this. I hope that I can gain something myself. I would like to invite any and all of my readers, or those of you who come stumbling along, to leave some kind of comment. Either one that is a question, or even perhaps an answer to one of the questions asked that you have obtained in life, and has brought you comfort.

Thanks everyone, and let's get started!!!

Divine Worth

Here are some things to think about. Who are we? Where did we come from? What is our purpose in life? What is our worth?

The world we live in today is full of people who are lost. There are many who struggle with this life, and the challenges that it presents. The world is a difficult place to make our through. It may be difficult even if we have a support structure. There is one that can strengthen us greater then any other though. That person is our father. More specifically, our Heavenly Father.

Who are we? We are children of a Heavenly Father who loves us very much. We are children of God. We learn this in the book of Romans in the New Testament of the Holy Bible. In Romans chapter 8 versus 16&17 we read:
"16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together."

There is a lot to be learned from these two versus. First we can learn that the Spirit, or the Holy Ghost, is a teacher. He bears witness to our spirit that we are literally children of God. Second we learn just as the scripture says, "we are the children of God." Third we can come to understand that as we are children of God, we have a divine potential to become "joint-heirs wit Christ... that we may be also glorified together." We are children of a loving and all powerful God. This means that we have divine potential to heirs in the kingdom of God with our Savior Jesus Christ.

We can also come to understand that if we are children of God, then we also lived with Him before this life. We read in the book of Jeremiah in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible:
" 5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee..."
The Lord continues to go on and tell Jeremiah that he was chosen as a prophet unto the nations before his mortal existence. We too can liken this scripture to ourselves. God knew us before this life. He created us spiritually before he ever created us physically.

So, what then is our purpose? Our purpose in this life is to reach that Divine Potential that we were born with. As a Book of Mormon Prophet taught his son:
" 32 For behold, this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God; yea, behold the day of this life is the day for men to perform their labors."
We are here on Earth to prove ourselves worthy to return to the presence of our Heavenly Father. He loves us, and because He loves us, He gives us the tools that we need to accomplish that purpose. Through sincere scripture study, prayer, faith, repentance, baptism by immersion, receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end, we can prepare ourselves to meet God. We can realize our Divine Worth, by performing righteous labors.
